Wishlist / My Wish is to make this app USABLE by mere mortals

I'm a fairly smart guy who knows his way around computers and digital media, having worked for one of the biggest companies in the IT industry for over 18 years. I find this app very hard to understand.

In practical terms, what is the difference between 50% and 60% in "Tags" match, or "precision"? Many of these settings are meaningless to a user so it is impossible to figure out which knobs to turn to get the results you desire...

I suggest that you need a BASIC mode which has only a few basic settings... maybe a few questions that the user can answer to give an indication of their preferences or priorities in removing tags. For instance, I want ONE copy of every individual recording of a song... one studio version, one copy of each live version if there are multiple DIFFERNET live recordings of the same song... Just no DUPLICATES of the same recording.

And, of course, I want to keep the highest bitrate version of that single copy if I have more than one.

Third, all else being equal, I would prefer to keep the one tagged with the album info, as opposed to a "Best of" or other compilation album.

It really seems pretty simple to me, but I can't figure out the settings to get that result for the life of me. I've been playing with this app for about 6 hours now reading tutorials and faqs.

It REALLY shouldn't  be this hard.

General / WHY is Cleaning up a Music Library so D@MN Difficult?

Hi all,

I'm about to rant here, so if you don't want to read it, I suggest you just click the back button now.

I really don't understand why there are so many of these de-dupe tools and they all SUCK. This is at least the 10th that I have tried and the 4th that I have purchased, and NONE of them work.

I'm not a software developer, but I just don't understand why this is so difficult. All the tools and databases already exist.
1) Scan the songs, one at a time, and do a Shazam like match on the song.
2) Download the correct tag data from a CDDB type database.
3) Check the bitrate of the song
4) Determine if you have already found a higher bitrate version of that same song already
            If not, Save the tag data to the song and move on.
            If Yes, Delete this version of the song and move on (or move it to a specified folder)
5) Go to step 1 and repeat until finished.

It's really not that hard, is it?

I would really like someone to quit trying to be cute with all the bullshit features and techno-jargon and just make a simple app that DOES THE JOB.

How about it Similarity? Can you do it?

I just don't get this app...

I just bought the premium version and I've read and tried to understand the tutorial, but it just doesn't make sense. It seems that the author of the tutorial, for all their good intentions, is not a native English speaker. It just isn't clear in describing how to use the app. Further, it is written like a person who WROTE the application explaining how it was designed, not for the USER who just want's to figure out how to get the desired results.

I have lots of duplicate songs. Some tagged properly, some not. Some with the same file names and some with different file names.

I just want to have the tool sort thought these files and choose the highest bitrate version of each song and get rid of the rest.
I don't care about file sizes or song durations or any other nonsense.

I DO care that the app can tell the difference between a live version and a studio version of the same song and keep them both. (Or even MULTIPLE different live cuts of the same song...) In the end, I just want ONE copy of each recording that is the Highest Bitrate version.

Can this app do it, or not?

If so, please tell me what settings are needed to make it happen.
