looking for "cover" songs
« Reply #195 on: December 22, 2013, 23:38:35 »
I am looking for a way to find the "cover" songs from my collection. I have about 6,000 songs in my .flac collection and I know a lot have been done by other artists. Example being "Like a Rolling Stone" , I have the Dylan version, but I also have a version done by the Rolling Stones. I am trying to find all the covers I have in my collection from various artists. I have a version of "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd and a cover by Dar Williams. Is there a way for Similarity to find these "covers"
Thanks,
Doug

the problem here will be the similarity to other tracks,

like a rolling stone by the stones shouldn't be that different to the dylan version, you'll probably get like 60 % similarity or something,
but if you have those tracks also on live albums and best of cds those will probably be around 80 - 90 % similarity
you'd have to separate all those false-positives

so i guess "no"

Thanks for your question, sorry but this is very hard task, current version of algorithms didn't design to do this, they show very high amount of false positives if they configured to this problem.
It's possible to create such algorithm, but very hard, we need remove to separate sub band the human speech, use speech recognition system on it, audio sub bands compared in piecewise manner with 'precise' likely algorithm. But the main problem it's very rarely needed and will be very slow.
