Switching files in place
« Reply #225 on: November 14, 2010, 20:01:43 »
I'm currently using similarity to check my music collection for duplicates.
Currently I'm using a source group and to check group approach.
However I have several files in my to check group which is better than my source group.
e.g. A better bitrate like source 112 kbits and to check 256 kbits.

What I would like as a functionality: is the option to switch the 2 files in place, and with complete exchange of mp3 tags.
In that way I don't have to leave the program to copy the better file to the correct folder and copy all the MP3 Tag data.

This functionality would certainly make my duplicates management a lot easier.

Yes, this is good idea, we implement it in future versions.

I strongly agree - it is nasty to be forced to switch to explorer every time you have a better candidate in the to-check group, especially if you have the source group in a big directory tree.
But I don't like the idea of automatic tag exchange, since source tags tend to be better, at least in a well maintained source (I'd call it target or base) group. The existing tag exchange mechanism is sufficiently easy for me (Ctrl-e + change all + apply).
